Google Pixel 4a: It is Simple!

With the launch of the new Google Pixel 4a, google has announced its new successor to the Google Pixel 3a. It is a mid-tier phone with a price of 350$ approximately(approximately Rs.27000). Just like the Pixel 3a, the new Google Pixel 4a comes with an absolutely amazing single camera but, that's it! It's a strong competitor for the mid-range phones like The One Plus Nord or The iPhone SE(2020).

Google Pixel 4a Exterior and Hardware: Light!

The Pixel 4a is made up of complete plastic, just one piece and no seams what so ever. It has a smooth black powder textured finish with a Pixel accented signature Light Green power button on the side and I like it. The Google Pixel 4a features a 5.81-inch full-HD+ (1,080x2,340 pixels) OLED display with 19.5:9 aspect ratio and 443 ppi of pixel density. It also comes with a Gorilla Glass 6 for screen protection. It has a traditional fingerprint sensor on the rear side, a Type-C charging port and surprisingly a headphone jack on the top. Of course, if you are buying a mid-range phone you definitely don't want to spend money on buying wireless headphones. It has a single camera on the rear side and flaunts a single hole punch front camera. The special thing about the phone is that comes with only one size, one colour and only one variant.

Google Pixel 4a Interiors and Software: Pretty Decent!

The Pixel 4a comes packed with the Qualcomm SnapDragon 730G along with 6GB of RAM and 128GB of storage. The phone could have been better and faster with the SnapDragon 765G since it's made for the mid-range phones. But I guess the processor and other hardware were pre-decided even before the launch of the SnapDragon 765G. It also comes with a 3140 mAh battery with 18w fast charging which by all means is not so great. You can expect only upto 4 hours of screen time.

The Pixel 4a also comes with Android 10 software with promised 3 year OS and security updates. That means the phone will update till reaching Android 13. The phone has preloaded new Google Assistant that lets you quickly send text messages and allows faster controlling of apps. You'll also get the Recorder app with real-time transcription support in English. That means the AI will translate all audios including videos and phone calls into written scripts. Now this is an amazing feature that has been carried down from the Google PIxel 4( which unfortunately did not release in India). Sensors on the phone include an accelerometer, ambient light sensor, barometer, gyroscope, magnetometer, and a proximity sensor. However, the new model doesn't feature the Soli chip that was included on the Pixel 4 to enable motion sensing and gesture controls.

GooglePixel 4a Camera: The best feature!

The Pixel 4a comes with an amazing 12 Megapixel single camera on the rear. Although the lens is not so good, the photo processing is superb with an amazing picture quality. It works well in broad daylight as well as pitch black nights. Since the rear camera is single, it does not come with a seperate ultra-wide lens. So do I miss the Macro lens and the quad-camera setup? Definitely No! The front camera is a 8 Megapixel single camera. The front camera is good with proper face recognition and depth sensors. So overall speaking, the cameras on the Pixel 4a are absolutely great and the best feature on the phone. Although, since the resolution of the screen is low hence the picture quality may slightly reduce. I can confidently say that it is better than that of the One Plus Nord and the iPhone SE(2020).

Google Pixel 4a: Should you buy it?

The Google Pixel 4a is pretty smooth with it's performance though not the best. It has a decent spec sheet but it still could have been better in terms of performance to keep up with the One Plus Nord or the iPhone SE(2020). The camera is mind blowing. It is as good as the iPhone 11 or the One Plus 8 flagship itself. With such competitive approach from Google, we can predict a flagship phone with the launch of Google Pixel 5 or whatever they would call it. As for the Pixel 4a, I think it is a great buy in mid-range phones for daily use and with a brilliant camera.

I hope you found it useful. Let me know your views on the Pixel 4a in the comments!
